Types of cabinet locks and door locks: We use many types of locks in our daily life to protect our privacy and assets. Knowing the types of locks is very essential before using it. In this article, we’ll know the types of cabinet and door locks which are the most used locks in our daily life.

Types of cabinet locks

Cabinet locks are used to lock drawers, desks, doors, chests, boxes, etc. There are two types of cabinet locks such as mortise lock and rim lock. Again these locks are given different names depending on the place. E.g.

Parts of a lock

Each lock is made of different metals. Some are made of steel or brass, and some are made of partial steel and partial brass. The lock has some main parts, and these parts are-

  1. Lockbox
  2. Salvage
  3. Bolt

The lock is made up of these three main parts, the nail, the head, and the points.

The lockbox consists of many components like tumblers, levers, springs, bolts, and other parts. A bolt is an iron bar that is driven by a key. Salvage is the space between the lockbox and space through which the bolt exits. It is always attached to the pin or center cylinder. Some locks are fitted with metal plates for furnishing.

There are mainly two types of key pins. E.g.

Barrel key: It is round and attached with a key pin.

Flat key: It is locked with a silver lock. All the rim locks except the rim lock that is installed in the house door have cylinders. The mortise lock can be separated again by attaching the cylinder.

All these locks are fastened to the end of the door. The door is attached without screws, and its belt can be kept on the right or left side as desired.

Door lock:

Advantages of using the mortise lock:

Disadvantages of using the mortise lock

  1. Wooden edge can be broken at any time
  2. The end edge of the wooden edge becomes weak
  3. If the lock is broken, the lock becomes loose for the second time once it is opened.

All locks should be installed 65 cm (30 inches) above the bottom of the door. Moreover, other doors have to be locked in the middle. The drawer is locked in the middle.
